CORK CLASSES AND EVENTS
Classes
From April 2008, there will be ten week terms running in the city centre from Wednesday 16th April and Douglas from Thursday 17th April. On Wednesdays, there will be both Beginners, designed for those who have never held hands and danced in the name of swing, and Improvers, which will suit those who have completed the Beginners course. In Douglas, there will be a Beginners course.
The beginners course will introduce you to the basics of Lindy Hop (another name for Swing dancing), giving you the confidence to take to the floor. You’ll learn key moves, grooves and style. The classes are relaxed and informal. You don't need to have any dance experience, and you don't need to come with a partner. The Improvers course aims to consolidate what you have previously learnt, and to further extend your repertoire and understanding of swing moves, style and attitude. By the end, you'll be turning a few heads on the dance floor!
It is essential to pre-book for all courses - please, don't just turn up on the first night, as you may be disappointed.....

DOUBTLETIME goes OVERBOARD!
As part of the Cork Midsummer Festival, DoubleTime goes Overboard in the SpiegelTent on Thursday 26th June. Time TBC.
A night of hot and heady music and dance from ragtime to swing. A fabulous live performance with the "Swing Street" band will have you rugcuttin' like never before as they play a soulfully percussive mixture of jump blues and boogie woogie. Throughout the evening, expect the unexpected – spontaneous dance displays of the Charleston, tap, lindy hop, jitterbug, burlesque and swing dance by Jess-a-Belle and The Divine Miss P. Later in the night Dj Gary will be spinnin to guarantee you'll be swingin as that infectious rhythmic momentum of the greatest big band jazz of the 1930's and 40's will have everybody on the floor. In the unique atmosphere of the Spiegeltent, with visuals from vintage "soundies" and movies like "Hellzapoppin", it's a wonderful celebration of African-American music and dance of the early 20th century not to be missed!
